China's holdings of U.S. Treasuries decreased to 1.113 trillion U.S. dollars in April, the second consecutive month in which the holdings dropped, according to data released Monday by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Xinhua reported.

Still the largest foreign holder of U.S. Treasuries, China held 1.121 trillion dollars of U.S. Treasuries in March, slightly shrinking from a month earlier.

Japan's holdings of U.S. Treasuries decreased to 1.064 trillion dollars in April, down from the 1.078 trillion dollars in February.

Combined, China and Japan hold more than one-third of the total foreign holdings of U.S. Treasuries.

Aggregating net foreign acquisitions of long-term securities, short-term U.S. securities and banking flows, the result was a 7.8-billion-U.S.-dollar net foreign outflow of U.S. securities in April, the data showed.
