From China's first bicycle to its first television, the city of Tianjin has more historical claims to fame than people might think.

Tianjin is a port city with China’s most complete industrial category. It is still one of the most attractive cities for manufacturing industries in China. Statistics show that the city is speedily trying to evolve, with advanced manufacturing industry leading the city in development, and accounting for over 60 percent of the economy.

"Tianjin has a very good industrial base. There are nearly 50,000 industrial companies, employing about 1.3 million skilled people. The industrial added value in 2018 was 700 billion yuan, which is just over 100 billion U.S. dollars,” said Xu Yingwu, Vice Secretary-General of Tianjin Municipal People’s Government.

He also added that among all 41 main categories and 525 sub-categories of industrial sector in China, Tianjin accounts for 39 and 373 respectively, owing one of the most complete industrial structures in China.

The city is also home to some of the world's major manufacturers, including the final assembly line for the Airbus A320 jet, the first of its kind outside Europe. The final assembly line has been running for over 10 years, with a steady production, hoping to deliver six airplanes every month by 2020.

"Manufacturers can easily absorb the industrial, market and regional advantages in Tianjin, to quickly build up mature products,” said Xu.

Besides building a comprehensive supply chain for the aviation industry, Tianjin is also the home for Asia's major electronics giants.

Samsung, with 10 companies in Tianjin, has moved its mobile phone production elsewhere, but doubled its local investment, funding two major projects worth 2.4 billion U.S. dollars.

The coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region is drawing a blueprint to make Tianjin home to the research and development base for advanced manufacturing industries.

"The municipal government has made great efforts to build a good business environment in Tianjin. By cancelling administrative charges to reduce the cost for enterprises, various policies have attracted some 3,000 up-and-coming projects, with an agreed investment of over 200 billion yuan," Xu added.
