The United Arab Emirates is famous for its date palms, and the Liwa Date Festival, which runs until July 27 in Abu Dhabi, is recognized as a gathering for those who love palm tree products.

Traditional handicraft products made from date palms are on display at the annual event, attracting thousands of visitors and local farmers.

Dates are an integral part of UAE culture. Across the country, sweet medjool dates adorn tables in homes, and leaves and branches of the tree can also be made into various products.

A special exhibition has be set up at the Liwa Festival to display baskets, bags and cushions made by local people. They are exquisite in workmanship, unique in style and have high practical and artistic value. There are also spices, perfumes and soap.

Organizers of the event say the festival is a good chance to learn about local customs and traditions.

"The Liwa Date Festival is a cultural event aiming to preserve the Arab cultural heritage. It has a very special significance in spreading the date palm culture to foreign countries," said festival organizer Abdullah Boudi.

Visitors can also take part in interactive activities, which are open to family members.
