Vice Premier Han Zheng encourages advisers from HKSAR to fulfill duties

Chinese Vice Premier Han Zheng praised the efforts of national political advisers from Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and encouraged them to keep contributing to the successful practice of "One Country, Two Systems."

Han, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, joined a group discussion with the advisers at the third session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in Beijing on Saturday.

He stressed to the advisers that establishing and improving at the state level the legal system and enforcement mechanisms for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) to safeguard national security is a carefully-made decision by the central authorities based on Hong Kong's situation.

The move targets acts of splitting the country, subverting state power, organizing and carrying out terrorist activities and other behaviors that seriously endanger national security, as well as activities of foreign and external forces to interfere in the affairs of the HKSAR, he added.

Enacting national security legislation for Hong Kong has been welcomed by people from all walks of life in Hong Kong. 

On Sunday morning, a launch ceremony of the United Front for "supporting national security legislation" campaign was held in Hong Kong, calling on all Hong Kong residents to actively sign their names in support of the central government's correct decision.

The United Front is formed by various organizations and individuals in Hong Kong, including the business community, as well as Chinese-funded enterprises in Hong Kong. 

A draft decision on establishing and improving the legal system and enforcement mechanisms for the HKSAR to safeguard national security has been submitted to the third session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) for deliberation.
