The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013 is not a debt trap, but an economic pie that brings real benefits to all parties, said Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Wang made the remarks at a press conference in Beijing on the sidelines of the second session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC).
Over the last six years, the BRI has become one of the largest international cooperation platforms, with 123 countries and 29 international organizations signing agreements with Beijing, he said, citing some examples of cooperation, including the Maldives' first cross-sea bridge and the high-speed train that is under construction in Southeast Asia.
