Spirit of Chinese Craftsman: Blast engineer builds railway tunnels on world’s highest plateau With the rapid development of China’s economy, enormous technological and infrastructure projects have mushroomed across the country one after the other. Behind these incredible feats of engineering are numerous craftsmen with unrivaled skills and knowledge. In a bid to better understand the secrets behind China’s technical marvels, CGTN followed these master craftsmen to unveil the stunning work they have contributed towards the Chinese dream. Peng Xianghua is a leading blast engineer with rich experience of using explosives to build tunnels for the Lhasa-Nyingchi railway line, an under-construction part of the Sichuan-Tibet railway, which will stretch for about 435 kilometers. Among the 47 tunnels on the Lhasa-Nyingchi railway, there are 14 high-risk tunnels, with an additional seven tunnels considered particularly high-risk. Faced with complex geological terrain and harsh weather conditions, Peng delicately carries out his work, which needs precise control over the blast time, location and the amount of explosives used.
