A centerpiece of US President-elect Donald Trump’s winning campaign strategy was trade protectionism. To gain support, he vowed to do away with trade agreements and impose unilateral tariffs. Many say he will trigger a trade war with China.
CGTN reporter Han Bin spoke with the Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, Ker Gibbs, who believes keeping trade relations stable is in the interest of both sides.
Gibbs, from San Francisco, came to China for the first time in the 1980s. He came here to travel and to study Chinese. Having been back and forth over the years, he has been settled in Shanghai for about 15 years now, with the city now pretty much his second home.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai has 3500 members, working with both American and Chinese companies for the benefit of both. They want to keep a healthy dialogue going, maintaining a good flow of communication between both sides.
