A Chinese movie app caused an uproar this week after it removed critics’ reviews from its platform, following criticism it was harming China’s homegrown movie industry.
A state-owned film publication had blasted movie app Maoyan, and another one, Douban, for their negative reviews and low ratings of three big Chinese movies, currently showing in cinemas. This comes amid a slowdown in China’s box office growth.
