2016 was the fourth year of Chinese President Xi Jinping's first term, and China has made tremendous achievements in domestic and foreign affairs during that time.
Cracking down on corruption has been key to President Xi's reform agenda and has also been a major concern to ordinary Chinese people. According to the CPC's central discipline inspection organ, more than one million disciplinary cases were filed between 2013 and 2016.
Through the Belt and Road Initiative, China has also formed a dynamic circle of friends: more than 100 countries and international organizations actively participate in the initiative, while over 40 countries along the new Silk Road have inked cooperation agreements with Beijing.
The sixth plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Committee in October called on all Party members to “closely unite around the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core” - a call to action that many believe will give the country the impetus to realize its centenary goals: to build up a prosperous, democratic, civilized and harmonious socialist country by 2049.
We took to the streets of Beijing and asked local citizens for their views on President Xi, China’s ‘core’ leader.
