Three people were killed after a landslide caused a residential building to collapse on Monday morning in Maoping town, Baihe county, in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province.
The bodies of the three victims, including a female adult, a boy and a girl, were discovered at the site around 1:55 a.m. on Tuesday, when they were all confirmed dead.
A 60-year old woman was found with signs of life earlier at around 5:30 p.m. Monday, and has been sent to a local hospital for further treatment.
So far, three people remain missing.
The local government says that search and rescue efforts have been suspended due to safety concerns ever since experts found a crack of rocks at the collapse site around 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
The building, housing a total of 39 people, collapsed at around midday on Monday. The area was hit by heavy rain from Saturday night to Sunday morning, which damaged nearly 200 houses.
The exact cause of the building's collapse is still unknown. An investigation is underway.
