NBA stars James Harden and Anthony Davis are among 20 players named by USA Basketball to its national team camp for this year's Basketball World Cup.

The squad for a four-day training camp in Las Vegas in early August include 2019 All-Stars Anthony Davis, Kyle Lowry and James Harden.

Team coach Gregg Popovich will then cull that to the 12 needed for warm-up games against Spain in Los Angeles on August 16, Australia in Melbourne on August 22 and 24 and Canada in Sydney on August 24.

"What's available and what's necessary are two different things and we need to look at the process to be a team that plays like a team when we get to China," said the San Antonio Spurs head coach.

The quality of the opposing teams at the World Cup, many of which will feature NBA players, is a concern for Popovich.

The two-time defending champions Americans seek a third consecutive crown and a berth in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the global showdown from August 31 to September 15 in China.

USA Basketball have approached others like the Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James to be available for next year's Olympics.
