17 dead, nine missing after rainstorms batter China's Guangxi region

17 people have been killed with nine others unaccounted for after weeklong torrential rains caused flooding in southern China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, local emergency management authorities said in its latest update on Wednesday.

The continuous downpours have affected six cities and over 590,000 people, said the department.

The regional meteorological bureau Wednesday maintained a yellow alert for rainstorms.
