China-Kazakhstan relations achieved leapfrog development over the past 27 years, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Thursday.

The Chinese president made the remarks while meeting with his Kazakh counterpart Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Bishkek, capital of Kyrgyzstan.

Both sides made efforts to lay a solid foundation for the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) cooperation, Xi noted, calling for deepened cooperation in fields of productivity, agriculture, finance, transport and logistics.

China is willing to work with Kazakhstan under the frameworks of both the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), Xi added.

For his part, Tokayev said developing a sound relationship with China has long been a foreign policy priority for his country.

Kazakhstan is committed to deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership with China, and is ready to maintain high-level exchanges, Tokayev continued.

He also stressed that Kazakhstan is willing to set up cooperation on trade, transportation and the digital economy with China.
