Last year, Japan passed a law on private lodging businesses or "min-paku." The law enables private homes to be offered as accommodation for tourists only if the owner submits the necessary paperwork to the government. It also restricts home sharing to 180 days a year. Meanwhile, China issued guidelines on shared accommodation last year, putting forward standards for the industry whilst benefiting hosts and consumers.
