This is China’s largest open-pit coal mine. It covers an area of 376 square kilometers. Decades of mining have greatly damaged the environment there. Ecological restoration started in 1994. Local people have continued to put soil and rocks to fill the ravines and gullies. Now the once barren mines have turned into a sea of peony flowers and green plants, even attracting numerous tourists.
