"I think China will love us and our games" – these are the words of Sergei Alexeev, co-founder of Kyrgyz video game company Grimwood Team.

His award-winning company produced the first game from Kyrgyzstan to enter the Steam and Xbox platforms, which is certainly a success for the blooming IT industry in Kyrgyzstan.

The Kyrgyz government is eager to support the development of IT in the country.

The High Tech Park of the Kyrgyz Republic was launched in order to boost the industry. The government has also provided special tax exemptions to IT companies to help them grow and expand their market.

On June 9, a forum was held in the capital Bishkek with the backing of the High Tech Park and brought experts in the field together. Potential clients and investors found the opportunity to network and discuss the latest trends in IT.

The director of the High Tech Park, Altynbek Ismailov, said they are proud of the IT industry's progress as "revenues doubling each year, our specialists are growing by 50 percent per year, so we have this dynamic growth, we are expanding our markets. Right now, we export to more than 30 countries."

Ismailov stressed that they are following the Chinese market closely. He said that many Kyrgyz companies are looking to partner with Chinese companies and are always eyeing joint opportunities with the neighboring country.

Alexeev, one of the presenters at the forum, stressed that gaming was on the rise in Kyrgyzstan. He said that in previous years, Kyrgyz players usually downloaded free or illegal torrents from the Internet but now habits were changing. Alexeev noted that people have begun to "understand that games are also a kind of art that you need to maintain and support people who make games and they're trying to pay for games."

Kyrgyzstan's small- and medium-sized companies account for a significant part of the country's national gross domestic product – at around 40 percent in 2016. Many entrepreneurs are eager to enter the IT industry. Global companies from Kyrgyzstan such as Mad Devs, a developer outsourcer, helps train young talent.

As China and Kyrgyzstan continue to increase their strategic cooperation, especially within the scope of China's Belt and Road Initiative, technology will likely be one of the industries that will benefit as well.

During his latest visit to Bishkek on June 12-14, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized that one of the areas that should be focused on is information technology. It would not be surprising if Chinese investors soon start looking into joining forces with young but promising Kyrgyz IT companies such as Grimwood Team.
