Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Saturday on the sidelines of the fifth summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Tajikistan's capital Dushanbe.

Xi said he appreciates Qatar's support of China in fighting against terrorism and extremism, adding that China is willing to strengthen coordination and collaboration with Qatar in multilateral affairs.

The two sides should speed up efforts to promote cooperation in a wide range of areas, such as energy, economy and trade, infrastructure construction, investment and 5G mobile communications, he noted.

Tamim said Qatar firmly supports China's efforts to safeguard its sovereignty and combat terrorism.

He hailed China's fair stance on the world stage, which calls for settling disputes between countries through dialogue, saying that Qatar would like to seek closer coordination with China in multilateral affairs.

Qatar is willing to deepen cooperation with China in areas such as investment and energy, he said.

Tamim paid a state visit to China in January.
