With the emergence of social media and accessible technology, in today's world, everyone can become a photographer or director.

The second “Hello, New Era” convergence media production competition held by China Media Group (CMG) was launched on Saturday in Shanghai.

As one of the 22nd Shanghai International Film Festival's (SIFF) events, the competition was distinguished by its creativity and diversity.

A total of 100 awards will be given, covering seven categories, including those of short videos, photography, interactive productions among others.

It sees an obvious expansion compared with a year ago, when the first competition was launched. At that time, short videos were the only form accepted in the competition. And there were only 60 awards of five categories.

This year’s event launched a series of events for college students, with training lessons and forums to be held, offering young people an opportunity to show their work.

The organizers say their hope to help young people express their dreams and ideals with their own language and record Chinese society through their unique perspectives.

During the event, CMG President Shen Haixiong, together with Zhou Huilin, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, and Zong Ming, vice mayor of Shanghai, jointly launched the competition.

Nearly 2,000 pieces of works were collected during the 2018 event, with five categories of awards handed out. A total of 50 works and 10 media organizations received the honor.
