The Netherlands and Canada have secured their spots in the round of 16 at the FIFA Women's World Cup in France on Saturday, after beating Cameroon and New Zealand respectively.

Vivianne Miedema scored twice to become Netherlands' all-time leading goal scorer as the European champions beat Cameroon 3-1.

It was Miedema's 60th goal for the Netherlands, overtaking former striker Manon Melis as the all-time top scorer.

"It is something special, something I'm only going to live once and it's a special experience for me," the 22-year-old said.

In the later game, Canada dominated the match but took a while to find the net as Jessie Fleming and Nichelle Prince got second-half goals to give Canada a 2-0 win over New Zealand.

New Zealand have lost their opening match against the Netherlands and sit at the bottom of Group E with only a faint chance of progressing to the second round.

Canada and the Netherlands will compete for the top spot of Group E on June 20.
