China-Kyrgyzstan ties are flourishing. China has become Kyrgyzstan's top trading partner with trade volume surpassing 5.6 billion U.S. dollars in 2018 and Chinese cumulative investments reaching almost 3 billion U.S. dollars in 2018.

During a state visit to Kyrgyzstan from June 12-14, Chinese President Xi Jinping held bilateral talks with his Kyrgyz counterpart Sooronbay Jeenbekov before attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek.

Xi stressed that China would continue to invest in many different industries in Kyrgyzstan such as infrastructure, construction and medicine. Kyrgyzstan has been one of the earliest supporters of China's Belt and Road Initiative and, according to the country's leaders, the partnership is paying off.

One of the latest Chinese investments was made in the southern Kyrgyz city of Osh, where the newly built Osh Clinic Hospital is now operational. The director of the hospital, Shaitbek Aburakhmanov says the project costs nearly 26 million U.S. dollars. It covers an area of 23,000 square meters."

The hospital carries great significance for people living in southern Kyrgyzstan. Prior to the Osh Clinic Hospital, many people in the area had to travel to the capital Bishkek to receive medical procedures now available in Osh. The deputy director of the hospital Azizbek Junusov says that the hospital is able to provide care for the region of Fergana Valley as well.

Aside from the financial support, the hospital administration is eager to closely cooperate with China. Director Abdurakhmanov stressed that 30 of the hospital's specialists will train in China in 2019.

During his speech at the SCO summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed that there is much more potential among member states regarding trade, investments and cultural exchanges. In 2018, China's trade with SCO member states has increased to 255 billion U.S. dollars and investments by the end of April 2019 has reached 87 billion U.S. dollars. The Osh Clinic Hospital is just one example of such investment where the project itself is significantly useful for the people of the country involved.
