The Chinese foreign ministry said in a statement Sunday that United Nations (UN) counterterrorism chief Vladimir Voronkov traveled to Beijing and Xinjiang from Thursday to Saturday last week, during which he and Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng exchanged views on international counterterrorism efforts and reached a broad consensus.

China emphasized that terrorism is the common challenge the international community is facing today; no country is immune to terrorism; all parties need to unite and face it together.

There should be no double standards in fighting terrorism, and terrorism shall not be linked with any specific ethnic group or religion.

Given the developments and characteristics of terrorism, the international counterterrorism cooperation should focus on aspects such as fighting cyber terrorism, the financing of terrorism, and the cross-border movements of terrorists.

China supports the central, coordinating role the UN and its Security Council play in international counterterrorism cooperation.
