Nick Nurse, head coach of the 2019 NBA champions Toronto Raptors, confirmed that he plans to coach Canada for the coming 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup in China.

The media did not have access to Nurse since he and his team won their first NBA Championship in franchise history until June 13. The Raptors boss said that a deal to make him head coach of Canada was "just about done," according to Sports Illustrated.

"I'm getting ready to take another situation soon because I think it's going to make me a better coach," said 51-year-old Nurse.

It will not be the first time Nurse will coach a nation basketball team. Back in 2012, he worked as an assistant coach for Britain.

"It's a unique time with the World Cup and the Olympics within a short 13- to 14-month window. And it fits in OK. I'm just giving up some vacation time," said Nurse. Canada are in Group H, "the Group of Death," with Australia, Lithuania and Senegal in Dongguan City of south China's Guangdong Province. They will meet their first opponent Australia on September 1.

Like Australia, Canada should be able to send an all-NBA starting-lineup at the 2019 Basketball World Cup. Andrew Wiggins, Tristan Thompson, Jamal Murray, Kelly Olynyk and Cory Joseph are some of the biggest names in the country's talent warehouse. Therefore, having an NBA coach who is more familiar with how these boys play usually may be a better choice.

As for Nurse, he's already a hero in Canada for bringing the first NBA Championship trophy to Toronto. If he can help the Canadian national team pocket a medal at Basketball World Cup, the country's basketball fans will definitely love him more.
