"Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) is very normal. It is a good friendly tradition between the two countries to keep in close contact," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang on Tuesday at a regular press conference in Beijing.

Xi will pay a state visit to the DPRK from June 20 to 21 at the invitation of DPRK leader Kim Jong Un.

Regarding the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, Lu noted that China calls on the U.S. and the DPRK to resume talks after the breakdown of the Hanoi summit in February.

"We also call on the international community to continue to encourage the efforts for talks," he added.

Commenting on China-DPRK relations, the spokesperson added that economic and trade cooperation between the two countries has a solid foundation and bright prospects, noting that both sides hold a positive attitude towards further cooperation.

The two leaders will also discuss a series of activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of China-DPRK diplomatic ties, Lu said.
