At least 21 people were injured after a 6.7-magnitude earthquake rocked Japan's Yamagata Prefecture, according to NHK.
A tsunami alert has been issued for the coastal regions, including Yamagata, Niigata Ishikawa prefectures.
The quake occurred at around 10:22 p.m. local time at a depth of 14 kilometers.
About 1,000 people evacuated their homes, NHK reported on Wednesday.
