A male forest musk deer has recently been caught by an infrared camera in the Jinfoshan Nature Reserve of southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.

Experts think that the forest musk deer are living in groups in the nature reserve because another female forest musk deer was spotted there last year.

"I feel very delighted to see the video footage. The forest musk deer are under the first-class state protection and are very rare in the wild. Now we have found the traces of the animal in a number of locations and we have the video footage as evidence that they are in good state. The no-man's land in the nature reserve is expanding, and therefore is very suitable for the timid animals like the forest musk deer," said Zeng Dejun, head of the Medical Animal Research Center under the Chongqing Institute of Medical Plant Cultivation.
