At 22, Yuval Glaser has lived in three countries, surfed the world around and served in an Israeli military intelligence unit.
Her home in the suburbs of Tel Aviv is half an hour's drive away from the closest Palestinian town.
But the only time she's ever met Palestinians face-to-face was while she was on a hiking trip in Indonesia.
"Everyone was saying where they were from and my friend and I were like 'Yeah, we’re from Israel' and a couple behind us were like 'We're from Palestine'."
"All of a sudden there was tension, we didn't know how to speak to each other or how to act. We didn't speak the whole time. Although both of us were like dying to ask some questions," Yuval added.

Passion for riding waves
Yuval's passion in life is surfing. According to her mom, she was swimming before she could walk.
She has surfed in Indonesia, Australia, South Africa, the Maldives, Portugal, Thailand, and other global hot spots. Yuval plans to eventually surf in South America.
"Surfing is my passion... When I was in the army I found time to surf. Now that I'm in university I hit the beach in the morning before classes and afternoon when school is over. I really can't go a week without getting in the water," said Yuval.

Leaving politics behind
Yuval is not following the current situation between Palestinians and Israelis. She says she's too busy and not really interested.
Her sense is that mediators and active agents on both sides of the conflict talk peace but it's "a lot of blah blah. We hear it but it always seems like a matter of time until the next conflict, the next flare-up."
Gaza: 'hectic waves'
"Do they even surf in Gaza?" Yuval asked during the interview.
She has heard about Gaza's "hectic waves" and says she'd welcome the opportunity to travel there if there were a surfing competition. The enclave is only an hour's drive from where she lives.
