Kucherov became the second player in Lightning's history, after Martin St. Louis in 2004, to become MVP. The 26-year-old right wing had 128 points in the regular season, the most by a Russian-born player. He also delivered 87 assists, the league's most since 1995-96. Thanks to his outstanding performance, the Lightning won 62 of their 82 games in the regular season – Kucherov scored in 62 games and played two five-point games. He also won the Ted Lindsay Award for the most outstanding player in the league, voted by members of the NHL Players' Association.

"It means a lot to me. You compete against those guys every night and you get recognition from them. It definitely means a lot. I'm really happy," said Kucherov.

Mark Giordano of the Calgary Flames won the James Norris Memorial Trophy for the best defenseman in the 2018-19 NHL regular season. The 35-year-old became the fourth player to win this award at the age of 35 or older in the league's history. He played 77 games for the Flames and achieved 74 points as captain, helping the team finish the regular season 50-25-7 and No.1 in the Western Conference.

"I take a lot of pride working out off the ice, keeping myself in good shape. But still, it's not easy to play late into your 30s. We're all aware of that as players, trying to last as long as you can. To be recognized at my age with this award is a moment that's really special for me and my family," said Giordano.

Barry Trotz of the New York Islanders won the Jack Adams Award for Coach of the Year in the 2018-19 regular season. This was the second time for Trotz to win this award after doing it with the Washington Capitals in 2016. The 56-year-old is the second coach in the Islanders' history to win the Jack Adams Award and the fourth coach in the NHL history to win the award with different teams.

"We headed out west, I think it was Colorado and Dallas in a western trip. We were playing OK, but not great. And we went out there against [the Colorado Avalanche], they were rolling at the time, scoring a lot of goals, and we shut them down. (The Dallas Stars), same thing. It started to galvanize our belief in what we were doing," said Trotz.
