China's Ministry of Public Security has released the results of a recent six-country joint action on tackling human trafficking and marriage fraud on Friday.
The joint action, from July to December of 2018, involves the six countries of China, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand.
It uncovered more than 630 human trafficking cases, and captured 1,130 suspects, with 1,130 non-Chinese female victims, and 17 children released. The action also uncovered 126 marriage fraud cases, and caught about 200 suspects. Among the victims, more than half of them are non-Chinese.
China has been working with other countries to crack down on human trafficking for a long time. Despite some achievements, the human trafficking issue is still severe.
Chen Shiqv, the deputy bureau chief of the Investigative Bureau of China’s Ministry of Public Security, said since some of the suspects are Chinese, and some are from those sourcing countries, China needs to work with other countries, instead of acting alone.
"The goal of this joint action was that the six countries communicate clues about the criminals in a timely way, take joint offensive actions, strengthen regional coordination and the exchange of intelligence, and firmly sabotage those criminal groups," said Chen.
Chen added that China will further strengthen cooperation with other countries on this issue in the future.
