By the seaside of Changdao County in eastern China's Shandong Province lies a purple sea of flowers. Upon a closer look, you can find hundreds of tiny five-petal flowers blossoming. Smooth and hairless, they are usually around 30 to 60 centimeters tall.

One special thing about this plant is that it changes colors. It is initially light pink and then slowly turns into white after blooming. It can be found in plains, hills and by the sea.

Although its petals look as delicate as papers, it can grow in abundance even in saline-alkali soil and sandy lands and more surprisingly, save lives. It is used as traditional Chinese medicine to help stop bleeding, which fits perfectly with its Chinese name – two-color blood-nourishing plant.
