Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chinese president, and his wife Peng Liyuan, watched a large group calisthenics and art performance at the May Day Stadium in Pyongyang, the capital of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), on Thursday night.

They were accompanied by Kim Jong Un, chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK, and his wife Ri Sol Ju.

The stadium, which can hold more than 100,000 people, was packed. When the leaders came to the podium, the audience stood up, warmly applauded and cheered to welcome the arrival of the distinguished Chinese guests.

Created especially for Xi’s visit, the performance kicked off in the beautiful fireworks. Thousands of performers gave a distinctive Korean-style performance in four chapters of "Socialist Our Homeland", "Echo of Victory", "For Better Tomorrow" and "Unbreakable Friendship", to celebrate the development achievements of the DPRK’s socialist cause, and to express the people’s longing for a better life, their ardent desire to inherit and enhance China-DPRK friendship, and their warm welcome to Xi's visit.

The three major orchestras of the DPRK - the State Symphony Orchestra of the DPRK, the Korean People's Army State Merited Chorus, and the Samjiyon Orchestra - gave a joint performance for the first time.

The performance ended in a large-scale singing and dancing show themed in "The Friendship of the DPRK and China forever." Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un stood with the audience and gave prolonged applause for the exquisite performances of artists and actors, as the fireworks bloom again in the sky above the stadium.

After the performance, the Chinese side presented the flower basket to the DPRK to congratulate the performance. Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan, accompanied by Kim Jong Un and his wife Ri Sol Ju, stepped into the stage to thank the artists and audience again and took a group photo.
