Qu Dongyu, China's vice minister of agriculture and rural affairs, was elected director-general of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on Sunday.
Qu, 56, will become the first Chinese national to head the Rome-based agency.
According to official results, he won 108 votes, followed by Catherine Geslain-Laneelle of France with 71 votes and Georgia's Davit Kirvalidze with 12.
