It had been a tradition for the champions of the four major sports leagues in North America (NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL) to visit the White House after winning the title until Donald Trump took over. This year's NBA champion, the Toronto Raptors, are unlikely to meet the POTUS, according to the team's starting shooting guard Danny Green.

Green attended "Inside the Green Room" of Yahoo Sports on Saturday to talk about Toronto winning the championship. When the host Harrison Sanford asked if the team will meet Trump at the White House, Green said "a hard no."

"I just don't think that we accept. And I try to respect everybody in every field that they do regardless of how crazy things are. But he makes it really hard. He makes it very, very tough to respect how he goes about things and does things. To put it politely, I think it's a hard no," said Green.

Since Trump's inauguration in 2017, no NBA team has ever visited the White House. The Golden State Warriors which won the 2018 Championship, went to Washington, DC, but they met former U.S. President Barack Obama, not the incumbent Trump.

When asked if he will invite the Raptors to the White House, Trump said: "We thought about that. That's an interesting question… That was a great job by a great team, so we'll think about that. If they'd like to do it, we'll think about that."

"I'm sure he's going to take his invite back now. If we do decide, he's going to be like, 'Well, I didn't invite them anyway.' That's fine," said Green, who could be indicating what happened between Trump and Stephen Curry in 2017.

Back then, after the Warriors won the 2017 NBA Championship, multiple players of the team, including Curry, said they did not want to go to the White House. Soon Trump wrote on Twitter that the invitation was withdrawn to show his attitude. However, the POTUS' move only drew more criticism from the NBA. LeBron James directly wrote: "U bum. Stephen Curry already said he ain’t going! So there ain’t no invite. Going to White House was a great honor until you showed up!"

Meanwhile, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invited the Raptors to Parliament Hill in Ottawa, the seat of the national government. The team's head coach Nick Nurse also confirmed that details of this visit are being worked on.
