Visitors to Macao increasing tremendously

Visitor arrivals to Macao totaled 3.40 million in May, up by 25.6 percent year on year, the Special Administrative Region (SAR)'s statistic service said on Friday.

The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the overnight visitors rose by 10.3 percent year on year to 1.60 million, while same-day visitors surged by 43.3 percent to 1.80 million.

The average length of stay of visitors shortened by 0.1 day year on year to 1.2 days. The overnight visitors stayed an average of 2.3 days, up by 0.1 day. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of same-day visitors held stable at 0.2 day.

The DSEC report added that the visitors from the Chinese mainland increased by 30.4 percent year on year to 2.43 million, mainly from the provinces of Guangdong and Hunan. Visitors from South Korea (65,763) and the Hong Kong SAR (581,780) went up by 1.2 percent and 20.1 percent respectively year on year.
