It's been a bountiful summer harvest for northern China.

Soon after the Dragon Boat Festival, wheat harvesting started along the Taihang Mountains.

In Nian Cao Wa village in the city of Jincheng in Shanxi Province, villagers have been busy harvesting the crop they planted last winter. The village has a total of 153 households. Wheat is the main crop planted by each household.

This year the wheat planting area in Jincheng covered 620,000 mu (41,333 hectares). More than 1,500 machines have been used for harvesting 98 percent of the crop. Local people say they expect wheat totals of around 186 million kilograms. The wheat selling price is about 2.3 yuan per kilograms.

As China’s summer harvest reaches its end, wheat totals are expected to be high. China’s Food and Strategic Reserves Administration says the nation is expected to harvest 67.5 million tonnes of wheat this year, a volume slightly higher than last year.
