The Coordinators' Meeting on the Implementation of the Follow-up Actions of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on the China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) has concluded in Beijing after high-level delegations from 53 FOCAC members discussed tangible collaboration plans.
Lesotho's Foreign Minister Lesego Makgothi was one of 25 African foreign ministers attending the meeting.
In an interview with CGTN, Makgothi noted that China and Lesotho have developed closer relations, especially since the two countries re-established their ties in 1994.
"In recent years, both nations have worked on fresh infrastructure projects, including the construction of a referral hospital, a state-of-the-art hospital with a 200-million-yuan (29 million U.S. dollars) fund from China, as well as a dam in the northern district to help generate hydroelectricity. The other area of cooperation will be in agriculture to ensure Lesotho's food security," said Makgothi.
Asked about what he thinks about claims that Chinese aid could plunge African countries into a so-called "debt trap," Makgothi said that there has been more debt relief instead of such "debt trap."
He added that the loans generated by joint projects working with China are easy to be repaid and manage.
