China reiterated its opposition to the trade war, advocating resolving China-U.S. trade disputes through dialogue, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said Thursday at a press conference, urging the U.S. to listen to the international community and domestic voices who oppose the trade war.

The remarks come after U.S. President Donald Trump Wednesday threatened to "impose tariffs on virtually all Chinese goods" if no agreement is reached with China during the G20 Summit.

Geng refuted the threat, stressing that "China has always advocated resolving Sino-U.S. trade disputes through dialogue, but at the same time we will firmly defend our legitimate rights and interests. The U.S. threat to impose additional tariffs on China will not scare the Chinese people. "

"I hope the U.S. side will listen to the people and various groups at home who oppose the trade war and tariffs. During the G20 summit, they should also listen to the international community's opposition to unilateralism, protectionism and bullying," the spokesperson added.
