China launched an on-spot check campaign for monitoring pollution emission in the Bohai Sea earlier this week.

The Bohai Sea, surrounded by several northern and northeastern provinces of China, is the only semi-closed inland sea in the country. Bordering a series of coastal cities, it faces tremendous ecological pressure despite efforts in local environmental protection.

This campaign will cover the 1,700-kilometer coastline of four cities, namely Tangshan, Tianjin, Dalian, and Yantai, according to the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.

Two hundred sixty work teams of 780 people were sent to these cities to screen for potential outfalls including culverts, ditches and pipelines by means of satellite remote sensing, unmanned aerial vehicles and on-spot checks.

More on-spot checks will be conducted in other nine coastal cities later this year to prepare for future monitoring, source tracking, and treatment.
