China-U.S. relations transcend the bilateral boundary and enjoy ever increasing global significance. All parties hope to resolve differences through dialogue, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said Friday during a press conference when asked about the expected meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday.

Xi and Trump agreed to meet at the G20 summit in their telephone conversation last Tuesday. The meeting is also one of the most anticipated events on the sidelines of the Osaka G20.

Geng highlighted China-U.S. relations, saying that bilateral ties are crucial to world peace, stability and prosperity.

China expects that the two sides would meet each other halfway and strive for positive results, said Geng, stressing that the move serves the fundamental interests of both countries and represents the shared aspirations of the international community.

China is willing to cooperate with the U.S. based on a respected mutual level to solve disputes, calling for the U.S. to do the same, the spokesperson added.

President Xi is attending the 14th G20 summit from June 27 to 29 in the Japanese city of Osaka, at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
