Cultivated as an ornamental flower, the garden balsam is beloved by people who love colorful nail polish. In ancient China, this flower was used as "natural nail polish" to dye beautiful colors on finger tips. The petals will be grated, mixed up with alums or salt, and then applied on nails with leaves wrapped outside the finger to prevent dropping on clothes. After several hours, the brand-new nail polish is finished.

To plant the garden balsam, people need a warm temperature. Garden balsam prefers moist but well-draining soil and partial to deep shade. Besides, a shelter from the wind is needed as well. Fertilizer is necessary if you hope to get thriving flowers.
