Russia has released eight out of nearly 100 captive whales back into the wild. The mammals were captured last year in order to be sold to perform in aquariums. After footage of the “whale jail” went viral, animal welfare groups, scientists and celebrities called for their release. But experts have warned they may not survive once back in the wild after being in captivity for so long.
