The Netherlands and Sweden beat their respective European rivals to reach the FIFA Women's World Cup semifinals on Saturday, joining England to complete the UEFA's quota for next year's women's football tournament in Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

According to football's world governing body FIFA, France 2019 serves as the Europe qualification for Tokyo 2020 with the three top placed European teams qualifying for the Tokyo Games.

Sweden ended Germany's hopes of a third women's World Cup win, coming from behind for a surprise 2-1 quarter-final victory thanks to goals from Sofia Jakobsson and Stina Blackstenius.

Sweden had not beaten Germany at a major women's tournament since the 1995 World Cup, failing to win any of their subsequent meetings at World Cups, European Championships and Olympics in almost quarter of a century.

Germany coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg said: "The defeat hurts, but we are in a process. We will grow from this experience."

Meanwhile, second-half headers from Vivianne Miedema and Stefanie van der Gragt earned the Netherlands a 2-0 win over Italy as they reached the women's World Cup semifinals for the first time.

Sweden will go on to a semifinal encounter with the Dutch in Lyon on Wednesday.

Earlier, England reached their second successive World Cup semi-final with a straightforward 3-0 win over Norway, and will clash with the United States next.
