The 22nd anniversary of Hong Kong's return celebrations underway in Victoria Park

Monday marks the 22nd anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China. Top SAR government officials and representatives from different sectors have attended a flag-raising ceremony at Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai. On July 1, 1997, China resumed sovereignty over Hong Kong, after 156 years of British colonial rule. Today, celebrations are citywide.

Sunday saw activities to celebrate the Hong Kong's return to China in Victoria Park. People from all walks of life joined in.

"So far, over 60,000 people from all over Hong Kong have come here to participate in the activities. There are more than 360 activities in Hong Kong. According to our statistics, more than 300,000 people have joined us in celebration," said Brave Chan Yung, acting executive chairman of Hong Kong Celebrations Association.

On the other side of Victoria Park is the high-tech Carnival.

The city wants a technology-friendly environment. The carnival is meant to boost science and technology development and provide a broad platform for Hong Kong youngsters.

The organizer is the Hong Kong Celebrations Association, made up of 40 civic groups. Visitors can try out high-tech products featuring virtual reality, 5G telecommunications and artificial intelligence. 

The carnival also features music concerts, trendy culture, and a food festival.
