Chinese officials condemn violent acts at HKSAR LegCo complex

An official in charge of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Tuesday expressed strong condemnation on the violent acts of protesters storming the Legislative Council (LegCo) Complex in the HKSAR on Monday.

"We firmly support the HKSAR government in investigating the criminal responsibility of violent offenders in accordance with the law, resolutely safeguard the rule of law and social order in Hong Kong to protect Hong Kong's prosperity and stability with people from all walks of life," said the official with the liaison office.

An official in charge of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in the HKSAR on Tuesday also strongly condemned the violent acts.

"Hong Kong's affairs are purely China's internal affairs. We are strongly dissatisfied with and firmly oppose the erroneous comments and interference in China's internal affairs by some countries. We urge relevant countries to immediately stop the wrong words and deeds that undermine Hong Kong's prosperity and stability," the official said in a statement.

The official expressed firm support for the HKSAR government and its police in handling the incident and investigating the criminal responsibility of violent offenders in accordance with the law.
