Last week, UNESCO's World Heritage Committee added the ancient Yemeni cities of Shibam and Sana'a to the List of World Heritage in Danger. The Old Walled City of Shibam is known as the "Manhattan of the Desert" due to its tower-like structures built in the 16th century. Like Shibam, old Sana'a is an Islamic city of great historical importance.
