The Russian city of Yekaterinburg has won the bid to host the 2023 World Summer University Games after the vote of the Executive Committee of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) on Tuesday.

Yekaterinburg, one of the 11 cities to host the FIFA World Cup last year, will become the second Russian city to host the summer Universiade. Kazan was the host of the 2013 edition.

Russia also hosted the 2018 Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk.

Yekaterinburg, Russia's 4th largest city with a population of 1.5 million, was the only bidder for the 2023 summer Games.

This year's Universiade will open on Wednesday night and the 2021 edition will be held in China's Chengdu.
