Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the World New Energy Vehicle Congress (WNEVC), which opened in Boao, south China's Hainan Province on Tuesday.

President Xi said in the letter that the new energy vehicle industry has entered a new stage with the rising of a fresh round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation.

The development helps inject strong impetus into global economy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve the global ecological environment, Xi noted.

The Chinese president stressed that China adheres to a green, low-carbon and sustainable development path and is willing to work with international community to make greater contribution to building a clean and beautiful world and a community with a shared future for mankind.

President Xi hoped that delegates and guests will have in-depth exchanges, build consensus, strengthen cooperation and join hands to make the achievements of innovative technology better serve the people around the world.

Jointly hosted by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and the People's Government of Hainan, the event highlights the transformation and upgrading of the automotive industry and ecological environment improvement.

Around 1,200 participants from government, industry and academia will discuss a wide range of topics at the three-day event focusing on the theme of "New Era • New Revolution • New Industry."

The new energy vehicle market in China posted vigorous growth in the January-April period amid a sluggish broader automobile sector.

About 360,000 NEV cars were sold in the first four months of 2019, surging by 59.8 percent from the same period a year earlier, data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers showed in May.

The production also rose by 58.5 percent year on year.
