LegCo complex violence: HKSAR police arrest 18 offenders

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) police said on Thursday that they have arrested at least 18 people who took part in violent acts of storming the Legislative Council (LegCo) building on Monday.

The police said that 11 men and one woman, aged between 14 and 36, took part in the violent acts at the LegCo building. They were arrested on charges of assault on police, possession of offensive weapons, unlawful assembly and forced entry into the LegCo building.

Five men and a woman who participated in a public assembly, aged between 20 and 72, were arrested on charges of possession of offensive weapons, fighting in public places and assault.

Andrew Leung Kwan-yuen, president of the Legislative Council, said on Wednesday that the meetings scheduled for this week and next week will not be held.

Authorities continue to collect on-site evidence as an investigation is underway.
