Iran breached the limit of its enriched uranium stockpile, set in the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), at the beginning of this month, its first breach of limits set in the accord.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that Iran's accumulation of more enriched uranium than permitted under the deal was not a violation of the pact, since it was exercising its right to respond to a unilateral U.S. withdrawal from the agreement last year.

The JCPOA may survive Tehran's action for now, however, tensions between the Middle Eastern country and the U.S. indeed have deteriorated over the past year, at almost an uncontrolled pace.

The U.S. has resorted to a variety of means to challenge Iran's independence over the past 40 years, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei once said.

As a matter of fact, the interactions between the two countries can be traced back to as early as 1957.
