More than one million people on Japan's Kyushu have been ordered to evacuate as heavy rain threatened to trigger widespread landslides. According to the local TV, some parts of Kyushu have received up to about 40 inches of rain since June 28, which is about as much as usually falls in the whole of July. One person has died and four have suffered minor injuries in Kagoshima prefecture as heavy rains battered the region. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said residents should "take steps to protect their lives, including early evacuation," and ordered the military to prepare for rescue operations.
