The photo was snapped by French photographer Franco Cappellari as he flew over Mont Blanc, the highest peak in the 1,200-kilometer-tall mountain range. /VCG Photo

The temperature reached 10 degrees Celsius atop the 4,800-meter-high mountain, causing the small body of water to form at 3,000 meters above sea level as ice and snow began to melt. /VCG Photo

Europe has been hit by a record-breaking heatwave over the past week, which was five times more likely to happen due to climate change, according to scientists with the World Weather Attribution project. /VCG Photo
